Mental Health Shift
Nowadays, there has been less stigma and at long last, a major shift of focus towards the importance of mental health. Meditation, mindfulness, and yoga have not only been beneficial for adults, but more recently, kids have also participated in these endeavors and are reaping the myriad of benefits from practicing meditation, mindfulness, and yoga just like the grown-ups!
Power of Meditation and Mindfulness
In many respects, it makes sense for kids to partake in meditation and mindfulness at an early age. Adults have enjoyed the health benefits of relieving stress and anxiety, developing more focus, and gaining emotional strength for a long time. It only makes sense for kids to begin this journey at an early age, to better prepare themselves for the many challenges that lie ahead in their young lives. The confidence, strength, and wisdom gained from practicing meditation, mindfulness, and yoga are sure to help kids navigate life with this fostered inner strength.
Yoga is also beneficial for that life-balance connection and physical strength. Sometimes it is easier to move than it is to stay still! The variety of yoga poses develop strength and balance and help one find emotional peace at times of stress. Kids can get stressed out too and find emotional stability by practicing yoga, sometimes alongside their yogi parents!
A Positive Mindset is Key
Nowadays, positivity is a key aspect of the emotional development we want to instill in our kids. Sure there are challenges in life but as the saying goes, “attitude is the one thing that can make the biggest difference.” Teachers have posters of this theme in varying degrees all over their classroom walls. As adults, we are accustomed to staff meetings starting with some form of “Positive Programming” with the overall goal to increase productivity in the office or improve office morale. There are many inspirational videos that are sure to fit this bill, all with the goal of changing the way we think, to think more positively. Children are learning positive affirmations in Health Class too. The idea is to think positively, more with “the glass half full, rather than the glass half empty.”
There are some great videos for kid’s meditation that combine mindfulness and positive affirmations all in one place, which makes these videos powerful in my mind. I invite kids to start their meditation journey early and begin reaping all the positive benefits that come along with this investment in their mental health. Here are some valuable resources to kickstart this important journey, so kids can start early to enjoy living a mindful life!
